About Me

Hello. I am Angelica Maria Thompson, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #102394) in the state of California. I have been working with traumatized populations since 2009, and during that time have provided counseling and case management services to numerous individuals and families of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. I have received ongoing training and supervision from leading therapists on issues of trauma and family systems since 2009. I am registered by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and am eligible to perform psychotherapy, clinical psycho-social diagnosis, psycho-social assessments, and evaluations. My approach is more of a Cognitive Behavioral approach but it is not an approach that is cemented in stone. I see clients as the experts on their lives, and what does and doesn't work for them so if I can adjust/adapt to a client's needs I will and if I am not able to, I do my best to refer them to someone who can. I see therapy as a journey and it's a journey I am taking alongside the client. The 50 minutes a client spends with me, I see it as their hour and whatever that client needs in a session with me, I try to provide it. Therapy is a team effort. I will never work harder than a client is willing to put into their healing process. Throughout my career I have worked with individuals of all ages for a variety of reasons. Some of the places I worked at included SFWAR, Institute on Aging, and YMCA: Urban Services. I received my BA in Psychology at SF State along with my MA in Human Sexuality Studies. I also received my MA in Counseling with an emphasize in Marriage and Family Therapy from Golden Gate University. I am fluent in both English and Spanish.
